at Chapman Court, Los Angeles 90020
For this café, located within a Spanish Revival building from 1929, we took a modern approach to bring historical elements into the interior space. Borrowing from the building’s decorative style and ornate textures, we incorporated a fluted wall pattern and carved stone elements that were simple yet elevated. We chose Botticino Semi-Classico marble and walnut wood for their warm tones and to harmonize with the existing red concrete floor. There’s a sense of cohesion from the café and into the building’s inner courtyard, where the coexistence of the historical with the new continues.
