at Chapman Court, Los Angeles 90020
For this café, located within a Spanish Revival building from 1929, we took a modern approach to bring historical elements into the interior space. Borrowing from the building’s decorative style and ornate textures, we incorporated simple yet elevated elements, such as a fluted wall pattern and carved stone details. We chose Botticino Semi-Classico marble and walnut wood for their warm tones, which harmonize with the existing red concrete floor. There’s a sense of cohesion through the café and into the inner courtyard, which continues the experience of both the historical and the new.
